The IMA Dresden currently faces a very interesting task: How old and how reliable is the steel of a staircase enclosure dating back to 1868? Documents of the building at the Schlüchtern train station in Hesse do not exist anymore. So, in order to find out about the quality of the old steel - mechanical properties, weldability, modern alternatives, the status of the corrosion and the condition of the joint connections, our materialography experts took material samples, which are now being examined in our laboratory on behalf of Sächsische Bau GmbH. Sustainable #aviation: An important subject that has its roots in #saxony. Our colleague Dr. Silvio Nebel will speak about it at the International Dresden Lightweight Engineering Symposium, Friday, June 18th. Silvio Nebel, Head of Department Aerospace Test at IMA Dresden, will also demonstrate the development of IMA Dresden for test and qualification methods of new lightweight structures for aviation and space travel. The main focus of his lecture at 9:15 a.m.: metallic structures and the construction of fibre composites. The 24th International Lightweight Symposium takes place on June 17 and 18 in #Dresden. IMA Dresden already is and now remains NADCAP accredited. Meaning, we upheld the MERIT status, that was achieved in 2020 and is very coveted in the aerospace industry. This is the third time in a row that the work and quality of IMA Dresden have achieved without non-conformity and the MERIT status. This year the scope was extended with 5 new test codes to now 19 test codes. It is a great success for our department for material testing for plastics and composite materials – making all employees at IMA Dresden proud. We passed this year's once again NADCAP audit without any non-conformance and are once again accredited to fulfill the prescribed international norms, guidelines and quality standards with our processes. He’s the contact for our partners in the railway business, informs you about our expertise and places your requests where they are handled best. Working with railway vehicles has accompanied Thorsten Voigt since the beginning of this professional career. At Bombardier’s Transportation site in Bautzen, Saxony, he worked as an engineer and constructor and was responsible for type testing and the type certification of trams. Together with the certifier DIN CERTCO, we developed our certification program for factory-insulated flexible district heating pipe systems, and the associated quality mark “DINplus”, you show your costumers that you more than meet the requirements of the relevant DIN and DIN EN ISO standards for plastic piping. After the initial testing and inspection, we hand over the test report to the certification body. DIN CERTCO, that is now part of the TÜV Rheinland Group, issues the certificate to you and grants the right to use the quality mark "DINplus". We test a lot and with pleasure! And now even more! With the new testing machine "Kappa 100DS" from Zwick/Roell we are expanding our capacities in materials testing of metals. For more than 10 years we have been successfully performing hydrogen embrittlement tests for our customers as ongoing production monitoring. Demand has increased steadily over the last 2 years. Hydrogen pressure tanks are an important part of the energy transition. Their design and safety will determine whether hydrogen becomes established as an alternative energy storage system in the future. This is exactly where we, IMA Dresden, come in!
