The IMA Dresden currently faces a very interesting task: How old and how reliable is the steel of a staircase enclosure dating back to 1868? Documents of the building at the Schlüchtern train station in Hesse do not exist anymore. So, in order to find out about the quality of the old steel – mechanical properties, weldability, modern alternatives, the status of the corrosion and the condition of the joint connections, our materialography experts took material samples, which are now being examined in our laboratory on behalf of Sächsische Bau GmbH. They are to preserve the building and to renovate it in accordance with the monument.
