As a partner of industry, economy and research, Applus+ IMA has contributed for the last 25 years to ensure that the products of the future are reliable, efficient and safe.

Internationally recognised testing, monitoring and certification body

Whenever it comes down to strength, resistance, validation or material characteristic data, then Applus+ IMA can combine the efforts with regard to test standards, approval and certification tests as well as experimental investigations.

We have over 10,000m² of test area in certified and accredited testing laboratories where we can test innovative products and technologies from aerospace, rail vehicle, automotive and medical technologies, shipbuilding, plastic, metal and electrical industries and other industrial branches. You can rely on us: the testing tasks at Applus+ IMA will be processed according to the current state of the art technology and enjoy worldwide acceptance and trust.

Engineering platform with global interfaces

Developers, designers and operators from all over the world rely on the engineering expertise from Applus+ IMA. Commencing with calculation and simulation, continuing on to measurement runs and test load generation and up to, and including, evaluating designs and product optimisation. Reliable results are verification of the strength and resistance, detailed test reports and in-depth material information, which support lightweight construction worldwide and help to make tomorrow´s industry and mobility competitive.

Certified, accredited and renowned for reliable results

18 independent bodies have confirmed that Applus+ IMA is working according to national and international norms and standards, and meets the strict stipulations and criteria. The quality management system is certified according to DIN EN 9100 and also according to the Environmental Management System ISO 14001. Applus+ IMA demonstrates its competence, independence and performance on a daily basis and is also an internationally recognised testing, monitoring and certification body. Our test laboratories are accredited by DAkkS (The German Accreditation Body) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and have the approval to modify test procedures as well as to develop them additionally or develop new procedures. Applus+ IMA has been recognised by DAkkS as an accredited Type A inspection body for the inspection and certification of pipes and pipework systems for water and gas supplies and waste water disposal as well as construction products, product groups and construction components for many years in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 and as a certification body in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065.

25 years of the Applus+ IMA testing world

Applus+ IMA is now 25 years young. Back then, in May 1993, leading engineers took their future into their own hands and formed IMA Materialforschung und Anwendungstechnik GmbH via a management buyout. Our roots however stretch right back to the 1950s to the start of pioneering aircraft development in Dresden. That’s how Applus+ IMA is celebrating its 25th birthday and, at the same time, 56 years of exciting testing tasks in 2018.

The cradle of lightweight construction

The roots of Applus+ IMA reach right back to 1955, when aircraft construction began in Dresden. The predecessor company of Applus+ IMA was founded from these roots back in 1961: the founding mission of the IfL Institut für Leichtbau (institute for lightweight construction) was the economical use of materials, in this case utilising the smallest possible quantity of the technically-required most suitable material. This was in many ways the moment of birth of testing halls, test devices, methods and technical knowledge, everything that has been developed and built up since then – and what is Applus+ IMA today.
