IMA GmbH Dresden successful reaccreditation for NADCAP NMMT
Since already 2011 IMA Dresden is NADCAP accredited for non-metallic material testing (NMMT). This month IMA Dresden was successful reaccredited.
NADCAP defines a standardized approach to quality assurance for all testing laboratories that work for the aerospace industry and leads to a reduction of supplier audits because Prime contractors, Suppliers and Government representatives have joined forces to develop the program. The stringent requirements require intensive expenses for process definition and validation of them. This includes besides the testing itself the preparation processes as specimen machining, specimen quality control, alignment verification and specimen instrumentation. During the audit all processes were monitored and evaluated.
As already in 2014 the current audit was passed without any non-conformances. This fulfils the requirements of the merit-program which extends the accreditation duration from original 12 month to now 24 month.
The accreditation scope of NMMT includes several mechanical testing methods, thermal testing methods and physical testing methods. Furthermore IMA is accredited for specimen manufacturing inclusive tabbing and cutting. With this scope all current and future aerospace customer can benefit from the highest quality of testing by IMA Dresden.
Furthermore this reaccreditation underlines the high quality approach of IMA Dresden for composite testing but also for all material and component testing divisions. Also the testing labs for metallic material testing are NADCAP accredited for MTL (Material Test Laboratories). With these 2 accreditations IMA Dresden is one of 18 laboratories worldwide that can offer testing with NADCAP NMMT and MTL accreditations. In Germany only one further lab can offer this quality standard.

IMA Dresden presents new calculation software for stress analysis

WIAM® fatigue RIFEST for calculating up-to-date and comfortable strength assessments according to FKM guide line

The department Information Systems of IMA Dresden introduces the calculation software WIAM® fatigue RIFEST into the market. During the construction process and component stress analysis it enables strength assessments according to the current FKM guide line (issue 2012) and shows assessment locations for non-welded and welded components. The previous programme RifestPlus is being replaced by the new development.

State-of-the-art and more components and materials – these targets achieves the calculation software WIAM® fatigue RIFEST: Due to 100% coverage of the requirements of guide line 2012 and the enlargement on welded components and the material areas aluminum and steel you can prove fatigue strengths (incl. static strength) according to current requirements during the construction and analysis process.

Faster and more flexible: additional benefits of the further development are batch processing of several verification points at one time and the possibility of customer specific enlargement (Add-Ons), such as integration of characteristic values. Due to the connection with the FE-environment of the user (Add-Ons for FE-pre/post processors), an additional option of the programme, the integration of a strength assessment is possible directly into the simulation work flow.

The software is online and cloud ready and has a new user friendly programme interface, basing on browser function.

Pulsation and vibration stress

on PVC Pipelines - Research project completed

The compressor for feed-in and recovery of biogas cause pulsation and vibration stress to pipelines of the connected gas network. How especially PVC pipelines react with this requirements and which limit values exist for their dynamical loading, these were the subjects of a DVGW research project.

In addition to literature research, determination of typical geometries and dynamical alternating stresses also safe dynamical stresses were experimental verified due to vibration strength tests.

To work out the limit and guide values were on behalf of DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH performed tests at IMA Dresden:

Zur Ausarbeitung der Grenz- und Richtwerte wurden im Auftrag der DBI Prüfungen bei der IMA Dresden durchgeführt:
  • Alternating bending tests following the DVGW-work sheet (W534),
  • Zugversuche according to ISO 527-1:2012:06 and
  • Bending tests following DIN EN ISO 178:2011:04.

A short report of the research project was published in the magazine DVGW energie I wasser-praxis issue 01/2014. Link to the magazine
